Philippines’ Dia Mate wins Best in National Costume award at the Miss Reina Hispanoamericana 2025 pageant.
Beauty queen Dia Mate was named the country’s Reina Hispanoamericana representative after competing in Miss World Philippines 2024. She will be vying for the Philippines’ second Reina Hispanoamericana crown after Winwyn Marquez won the first in 2017.
Mate is now in Bolivia to compete in this year’s edition of the international finals. The pageant began last January 23 and its coronation night will be on February 9. The competition just held its national costume segment and winning the award is the PH bet.
Her costume was nothing short of breathtaking and stunning. Her extravagant costume made her take home the Best National Costume award at the end of the night.
About the national costume
It is called “Banaag” and inspired by the Baroque Churches of the Philippines. It was created by Ehrran Montoya and features over 150,000 crystals to mimic the vibrant stained glass windows.
It is embedded with Gold Mindanao Okkir patterns representing Indigenous artistry and in each panel are the hues of red, white, and blue which was a clear representation of the Philippine flag.
On her head was a “salakot” as a tribute to Filipino farmers adding an “agricultural touch” and the feather pen and lamp carried by her hands were for the muses of Filipino poetry. The train has intricate craftsmanship of rattan furniture to honor Filipino artisanal skills.
Generally, this piece “is a stunning tribute to the nation’s rich cultural legacy”.
Meanwhile, she was sent off at the La Noire Boutique Club in Makati City. Before flying to Bolivia, her family and friends flooded her with well wishes.
National director Arnold Vegafria said this about her, “Dia is our first pageant winner to compete internationally in 2025. I’m so proud of her transformation. She’s a total package with a pleasing personality.”
