Child Aging 3 Years Old in Bicol Died To Viral Disease Meningococcemia
CHILD – The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) confirmed that meningococcemia is the cause of death of a 3-year-old boy in Bicol.
One of the diseases that can really cost a life in a short period of time is meningococcemia. It is a rare viral infection caused by Neisseria meningitidis, a type of bacteria that can also cause meningitis.
Meningococcemia affects the brain of a person. Among its common symptoms are fever, headache, anxiety, irritability, and nausea. The most noticeable is rashes made of small spots.
Sadly, a 3-year-old child in Bicol recently died due to meningococcemia. It was already confirmed by RITM.
Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, the boy was brought to Bicol Medical Center. Violet rashes appeared on the skin of the boy.
“Typical feature kasi yung nag-violet na rash, eventually nakuhanan namin ng tubig sa likod sa result ng bacterial review, bacterial meningitis,” Dr. Dana Marie de Asis said.
Based on the report, the boy died within the day. Currently, his family and those who had a direct contact with him are under observation since the disease is communicable.
Reportedly, this 2019, three(3) cases of meningococcemia were recorded in Bicol Medical Center. Two(2) of the said three(3) patients that got the rare infection died.
