2 Filipinos Left Dead & 1 Still Missing by the Recent Taiwan Bridge Collapse Incident
TAIWAN BRIDGE COLLAPSE – A steel bridge in Taiwan recently collapsed and left two(2) Filipinos dead and one(1) still missing.
One of the most shocking and saddening incidents that took place recently involved a steel bridge in Taiwan. It was in 1998 when the said bridge was built and it is 140-meter long.
The bridge allowed vehicles of different types including trucks. In fact, when it collapsed, there was an oil tanker truck passing through it. There were boats below the structure as well.
The oil tanker truck plunged into the waters landing on two(2) boats below. A lot of people were affected by the incident and at least six(6) persons were trapped below.
Rescue units abruptly came and provided help for the victims. Several people who were directly involved in the incident were brought to the hospital.
The cause of the Taiwan Bridge collapse has yet to be confirmed. Reportedly, an earthquake has rocked the seaport a few hours before it happened. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the incident left two(2) Filipinos dead one(1) still missing.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) confirmed that certain Gorge Impang and Andree Serencio died because of the incident. The Pinoy fisherman who is still missing now was identified as Romulo Escalicas Jr.
Based on the report, the DOLE assured in a statement that they will assist in bringing home the remains of the OFWs. Also, the family of Impang will be receiving all the benefits as he was an active member of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
In the case of Serencio, he was an inactive OWWA member since 2017. The search and rescue units are still looking for Escalicas and as well as an Indonesian fishermen who also went missing after the incident.
Currently, the cause of the collapsing of the bridge has yet to be confirmed. We will keep you posted for updates.
