PAGASA Raises Red Lightning Alert, NAIA Suspends Flight Operations

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport suspends flight operations after the state weather bureau PAGASA raised a red lightning alert.

On Wednesday afternoon (October 2, 2019), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has issued an advisory informing the public that they are raising a red lightning alert warning.

NAIA takes an immediate action and temporarily suspends the Flight and ground operations after the weather agency released the latest weather updates and raised the lightning warning. The suspension of the operation has been done to ensure the safety of the passengers.

Flight Operations

The Manila International Airport Authority said in an advisory that the red lightning alert was raised at 2:26 pm. MIAA also explained that the operation will resume after PAGASA lifted the alert.

“The alert will be lifted as soon as Pagasa deems it safe to continue operations,” MIAA said. 

MIAA also explained that the announcement is a precautionary measures to prevent any possible untoward incident that may happen during the flashes of lightning. The agency also wants to secure the safety of the airline crew, personnel, and passengers.
