Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed a law that declares the FSL as the Filipino deaf national sign language on November 27, 2018. The law will also protect the deaf from all forms of discrimination and will be taught in schools, workplaces, and broadcast places. Former Senator Bam Aquino is the author of the Senate Bill No. 996 or the Filipino Sign Language Act.
