On Duty Police Officers Spotted Sleeping By Police Director
SLEEPING POLICE – Three police officers were relieved from their posts early on Monday after being caught sleeping on-duty.
Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, the director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) spotted the police officers on a surprise inspection. All three officers were assigned in Las Piñas City.
The relief order was for SSgt. Danny Cerbito from Las Piñas Police Community Precinct 2 (PCP-2). Also relieved from their posts was Cpl. Eugine Ybasco and Cpl. Jayson Monsales of PCP-3.
In a video posted by Inquirer, it showed that Eleazar spotted Ybasco and Monsales sleeping while their patrol car was on standby. The patrol vehicle was seen along Alabang- Zapote Road in Brgy. Pamplona.
The two were caught sleeping inside a tricycle. When caught, Eleazar asked the officers why they were sleeping on duty. The officers responded by saying they had straight shifts.
However, the Police Director responded with “So What?”. He then told the officers that while they were sleeping, there was a possibility that somebody could have gotten their guns.
Afterwards, as Eleazar continued his inspection, he came upon a sleeping desk officer. Eleazar stormed into the precinct and slapped the desk of SSgt. Danny Cerbito, waking up the sleeping officer.
Eleazar then asked the officer why he was asleep. The officer responded by saying he was just resting for a bit.
According to Inquirer, Eleazar said that he had transferred the officers to the Regional Headquarters Support Unit (RHSU). He also confiscated the service firearms of the officers.
Adding to this, the three officers will be facing administrative cases for neglect of duty. The NCRPO will continue these surprise inspections.
