Provinces Of Davao Region | Regions Of The Philippines
PROVINCES OF DAVAO REGION – In this topic, we will now discuss the five provinces of Northern Mindanao or Region XI.
Formerly Southern Mindanao or Habagatang Mindanao, the Davao Region is one of the regions in Mindanao, one of the three island groups in the Philippines.
It is composed of five provinces and one highly urbanized city: The City of Davao in Davao del Sur which is the “King City of the South” and its regional center.
It is assigned as Region XI and has a population of more than 4 million people, as of 2015.
The name Davao is derived from the Bagobo word daba-daba or davohaha which means fire.
Provinces
Here are the following five provinces:
- Compostella Valley (Capital: Nabunturan)
- Kawalogang Kompostela or ComVal is the only province that has no Davao on it since most of the provinces have Davao written. It got its name from the two words Campus Stellae meaning field of the stars. It might soon be called Davao de Oro if RA 11297 will be approved.
- Davao del Norte (Capital: Tagum)
- Amihanang Dabaw is the northern part of the region and is known as the Banana Capital of the Philippines
- Davao del Sur (Capital: Digos)
- Habagatang Dabaw is located at the western par of the region.
- Davao Occidental (Capital: Malita)
- Kasadpang Dabaw is located at the southwestern part of the region
- Davao Oriental (Capital: Mati)
- Sidlakang Dabaw is the easternmost province in the region.
