President Duterte Says VP Robredo Does Not Read and Understand The Law
RODRIGO DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Duterte slammed Vice President Leni Robredo in his speech in Malacañang on Tuesday night for supposedly not being able to understand the law.
During his speech, Duterte also gave a warning to the Philippines. He stated that if VP Robredo were to become president, the Philippines would be in trouble.
The President then said that Robredo supposedly does not read and comprehend the law. Duterte stated that he quoted from the Anti Graft and Corruption Practices Act when he told Camp Crame Officers they may accept gifts.
He said that the policemen may accept gifts of nominal value given by thankful citizens. He then stated that there is an exception to the anti craft and corruption act.
In His speech uploaded by Duterte News Report, Duterte added he used the word “nominal”, out of gratitude. The President then said that Filipinos are like that.
President Duterte then proceeded with his speech. Duterte stated that Robredo called him out and said that it’s illegal and unconstitutional.
Among those who criticized him for his stance were VP Robredo and Senator Panfilo Lacson. Lacson in a tweet, warned Duterte that insatiable greed starts with simple petty graft.
The Senator followed this up by saying that the act could be even more addicting than drugs. Lacson then added that there is no detox or rehab facility for addiction to money.
On the part of VP Robredo, she cited Republic Act No. 6713. This would be the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officals and Employees.
She had emphasized that it is illegal for government employees to accept any form of gifts. This included gifts given directly or indirectly.
