Davao Oriental Hit by Earthquake with 5.3 Magnitude Today
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.3 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental today, September 10, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
On July 9, Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm. It was followed by several aftershocks.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Davao Oriental. At 01:39 pm today, September 10, 2019, Davao Oriental was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Davao Oriental was located at 06.60°North, 126.43°East – 039 km South 83° East of Governor Generoso. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 039 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in a bulletin that San Francisco, Southern Leyte; Santa Cruz, Davao Del Sur; Koronadal City; Magpet, North Cotabato; Kalilangan, Bukidnon; and Cagayan De Oro City felt Intensity II. Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; Alabel & Malapatan, Sarangani; Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur; Bislig City; and Butuan City felt Intensity III.
Davao City felt Intensity IV. There are no expected damages caused by the quake but there may be aftershocks.
