Dengue Cases Likely To Remain High Till Year End, Says WHO Expert
DENGUE CASES – An expert from the World Health Organization said on Sunday that dengue cases is likely to remain high until December.
Previously, the Commision on Human Rights (CHR) expressed their concern, saying that they are alarmed at the increasting rate of the number of cases in the mosquito-borne disease.
De Guia of the CHR said that this is a massive threat to children and adults alike, thus, the agency is currently alert to the ongoing situation and taking note of the steps the organization took in dealing the issue.
Recently, an expert from WHO recently said that it is expected to remain high up to yearend.
An article from ABS-CBN News states that a WHO medical officer named Gawrie Galappaththy who is also in the field of vector-borne parasitc diseases, noted that one of the factors is the rainy weather, which is going to extend up until December.
Galappaththy further noted that they have been observing and analyzing data in the country for the past few years, further concluding that the trend is likely to increase, especially this rainy season.
As per the report, the WHO expert cited that the Philippines has a higher rate of fatalities of about 0.42% than nearby countries in the region.
Galappaththy further urged the families, who has members suspected of having the disease, to instantly head to the hospital to have them checked. She further urged parents who have kids infected of dengue to stay alert, and not to wait for sever symptoms to occur.
The number of cases of dengue currently rose to 208, 000 as of August 2019, with 800 fatalities caused by the disease-related complications.
