What is your stand about the proposed “No Homework” policy?

NO HOMEWORK POLICY – The proposed policy about the giving of assignments to students gained different reactions, are you in favor of it?

Currently, one of the trending topics on social media platforms is the proposed “No Homework” policy among students. Deputy Speaker and Sorsogon Representative Evelina Escudero is pushing for the House Bill 3611 which seeks for conducting all lessons and activities in school.

The said proposal which covers kindergarten to Grade 12 gained different reactions from the people most especially from the students and teachers. Each of the groups mentioned also has divided sides.

There are students who are in favor of the proposal citing their desire to spend more time with their families. On the other side, there are those who recognize the importance of giving assignments and its being a way for them to learn things on their own first.

For the teachers, a lot have expressed their disagreement towards the policy. They stressed that assignments are way for students to focus more on important tasks and reduce the risk of engaging to unhealthy activities.

With regards to the chief of the Department of Education (DepEd), Secretary Leonor Briones is in favor of it. Based on a report on Inquirer, the DepEd Secretary stressed the desire of the Department for formal learning.

“Ang gusto natin, lahat ng pormal na pag-aaral, assignments, projects, whatever, gawin sa loob ng eskwelahan. Pag-uwi nila, libre na sila, free time to be with their parents, with their friends,” she said.
