Leni Robredo Hopes De Lima Cleared Of Drug Charges
LENI ROBREDO – Politician Leni Robredo hoped that Senator Leila De Lima would be cleared of her drug charges soon.
Filipina politician and former Justice Secretary Leila Delima have been detained for three years now due to drug-trafficking charges. She did not reveal her situation to her mother Norma Magistrado De Lima who is suffering from dementia.
Following a previous article, her lawyer said the senator requested a furlough to visit her critically-ill mom in Iriga City, Camarines Sur. Her petition was eventually granted by the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC)
In a report, Senator Leila De Lima traveled to Iriga City to be with her mother sick mom in their ancestral home. Several Philippine National Police (PNP) officers accompanied the politician.
De Lima’s relatives said they have prepared a small gathering since her detention in February 2017. The senator denied the allegations several times. She’s not entitled to bail and she could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment if found guilty.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, Vice President Leni Robredo hoped that the ex-DOJ secretary would soon be cleared of drug charges. She’s among the people who want to see De Lima fulfilling her duties as a lawmaker.
According to the report, Leni Robredo hoped that Leila De Lima’s case will be decided soon considering the accusations were “baseless.” She said the politician is not the only one who is deprived but also the people who voted for her as a senator.
“Sana finally madesisyunan na ang kaso kasi alam naman natin na baseless. Na-deprive hindi lang si Sen. De Lima pero ‘yung taumbayan ng serbisyo kasi elected senator siya,” she said.
The vice president also said she prayed for the 86-year-old mother of the detained senator.
