A few days ago, a Filipino fishing boat sank into the waters near Recto Bank after being hit by a Chinese vessel. 22 fishermen were affected and several investigations were conducted.

Numerous reports regarding the exact and true details about the incident also surfaced recently.

Few days, after the incident the 22 members of the crew on-board the sunken ship when the incident occurred were interviewed and granted help.

One of the people who helped was Leni Robredo, who visited the crew of the fishing vessel (FB Gem-Vir 1) and gave them cash grants of P50,000 each.

According to Robredo’s office, the Office of the Vice President’s program for poverty “Angat Buhay” provided the money that was granted to the crew members.

The program “Angat Buhay” is an initiative effort to provide assistance for communities that are in need across regions in the country.

The program’s source of finance comes from the OVP and some private sector.

President Duterte’s administration gave away P45,000 cash to each members of the crew. Also, boats, rice, and scholarship grants for their children as well as livelihood opportunities last Wednesday.

According to GMA News’ Balitanghali report by Marisol Abduraman on Friday, the vice president went to San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and got to meet the FB Gem-Vir 1 crew and proceeded to the boat owner Felix dela Torre’s house and the boat’s captain Junel Insigne.

To accommodate the vice president, the captain’s prepared some food.

This is according to an article from GMA News.

After being asked about their meet with Robredo, the fishermen revealed that the vice president asked about what happened in Recto Bank and other details including how they are doing since the incident.

The vice president, apparently concerned about the fishermen, also asked about the current state of their primary income source.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
