JUST IN: Duterte Declares November 17 “National Students’ Day”

November 17 Now A National Students’ Day Following Declaration of Pres. Duterte

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte declared every November 17 of the year as “National Student’s Day”.

A huge part of the populace in the Philippines now are students – ranging from pre-school to elementary to secondary and college. This part of the population is visibly active in terms of social issues.

Even the President recognizes the participation of the students in upholding democracy in the Philippines. That is why he recently gave his approval on the measure that seeks for a special day to be called as “National Student’s Day”.

Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte declared every November 17 of the year as “National Students’ Day”. He signed the Republic Act No. 11369.

The go signal of the President is “in recognition of the invaluable contribution of student activism to Philippine democracy”. In line with it, there are specific mandates to the responsible government authorities.

Based on the report, under the new law, the National Youth Commission is tasked to lead the activities in line with the celebration of the National Students’ Day on November 17. It must cover both public and private schools.

The Department of Education (DepEd) is mandated to support the activities to be launched by the NYC during the National Students’ Day. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is tasked to do the same.
