Singapore, US To Help Isko Moreno Turn Manila Into ‘Smart City’

ISKO MORENO – Singapore and United States offered assistance to Mayor Isko Moreno in turning Manila into a ‘smart city.’

Actor-turned-politician Francisco “Isko” Domagoso Moreno is the current mayor of the city of Metro Manila. One of his plans is to eradicate both unemployment and crime in his city.

In a previous article, the 44-year-old politician asked the fast-food chains in Manila to hire at least 2-4 Persons with Disabilities (PWD) or senior citizen.

Isko Moreno’s major makeover in Metro Manila elicited reactions from several personalities and netizens. They lauded him for being so active in his job as a mayor.

Now, Moreno is currently in the process of making plans on how to end the devastating flooding in Manila.

Based on a report from Manila Bulletin, US and Singapore offered help to turn Manila into a ‘Smart City.

Singaporean Ambassador to the Philippines Gerard Ho paid a courtesy call on Isko Moreno on Thursday, August 8, 2019. His visit to Manila City Hall fell on the eve of the 54th National Day of Singapore.

“We are ready to share. Ask us if you need any help. We have areas of expertise in traffic management, sewages, but you have to see what works for you because you cannot blindly apply,” said Ho.

Gerard Ho also offered to finance a “study trip” where Moreno could learn more about the policies and practices of the 1st world countries.

If you have done something before and it seems to work, and you want to be a good neighbor and friend to your region, isn’t it good to share these things to everyone?” he said.

According to the report, the mayor told the envoy that among his dreams for the city is to end the flooding problems.

“Our roads are full of water but our creeks are not. There must be something wrong. I need a thorough study, no development yet…”

I have a dream to really address flooding in the city… I think in a million light years we will arrive there, but with your help (Singapore) we will get there,” he added.

Based on the report, the ambassador of the United States also visited Isko Moreno’s office last August 7. He offered to help in flood monitoring and prevention program in the city.
