Military Says Chinese Vessels Leaves Pag-Asa Island After PH Protest

CHINESE – Military said the Chinese swarm left the Pag-Asa Island in the West Philippine Sea left after the protest.

The West Philippine Sea is claimed by countries including Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, China, and the Philippines. The administration of President Rodrigo Duterte continues to strengthen their position in the disputed waters.  

In a previous article, the satellite imagery of foreign vessels entering the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) surfaced on the internet.

Lots of Filipino netizens reacted on the photo shared by the coordinator of Karagatan Patrol Jessie Floren. He claimed foreign ships went to the Philippine waters because their country now has fewer resources.

“Industrial, commerical scale, exploitation on our EEZ are nearing the coastline… Lumalapit sila dito dahil scarce na ‘yung resources nila,” he said.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, Lots of Filipino people protested over the presence of the Chinese ships on the Philippine waters.

The military recently reported that more than hundreds of Chinese vessels left Pag-Asa Island after the protest and the tropical depression Falcon. Head of the military’s Western Command, VADM Rene Medina said they don’t know the reason why they decided to leave.

“Hindi namin alam kung anong dahilan pero mula noong mga 4 na araw, wala na kaming namo-monitor na Chinese fishing vessel or any Chinese vessel nandoon sa area na yun,” said Medina.

According to the report, Medina and his team will collaborate with the Joint Task Force West to patrol the West Philippine Sea. They aim to locate their new spot.

“We are also working with Joint Task Force West to conduct patrol so that we can also verify in any areas of West Philippine Sea kung saan sila,” he said.
