Netizens React to Duterte’s Criticism Against Cory Aquino
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said Cory Aquino is popular only after losing her husband Ninoy Aquino.
Philippine President Rodrigo “Digong” Roa Duterte succeeded Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III after he campaigned on a platform of change.
The 74-year-old chief executive is currently in Davao City to give a speech to the beneficiaries of agrarian reform.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, President Rodrigo Duterte criticized the late President Cory Aquino during his speech. He said Noynoy’s mother only gain popularity after her husband died Ninoy Aquino.
“Cory Aquino may be popular. She is popular today. Why? For losing the husband in the hands of Mr. Marcos,” he said.
The Davaoeño politician said the late president may have brought back the country’s democracy but described her ruling as “incongruity.”
According to the report, President Duterte said the former president exempted their family’s sugar property, Hacienda Luisita, from the land reform program of the Philippine government.
“Aquino declared land reform for the entire Philippines but exempted Doña [Hacienda] Luisita, her own land…”
“When she said, ‘I would like to declare land reform in all of the Philippines.’ Hindi niya sinali ‘yung kaniya. She exempted her… So you quarrel what? The one who freed, emancipated… It’s incongruity, they call it,” he added.
