Writing Process

The writing process is a step-to-step series of actions that writers take in order to make a text that fulfills their purpose to write something and the expectations of the readers.

The Two Types of Prewriting

Again, as mentioned above, there are two types: Freewriting and Research

1. Freewrting

Freewriting is a type of prewriting which is the practice of writing down all your thoughts without stopping and disregarding spelling, grammar or any usual rules of writing. It includes a particular topic as a main guide or not at all.

Its purpose varies but it can be utilized to make ideas and to clear any distracting thoughts. Journals, essays, and fiction writing are possible forms of freewriting.

When doing freewriting, you should not stop. Continue writing what pops out your mind. You may decide to add a time limit or limit the number of words. Most importantly, do not begin with a main idea in hand.

2. Research

Research, on the other hand is a type of prewriting which includes the practice of careful consideration of study about a certain issue or problem. It is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict, and control the observed phenomenon.

In the field of writing, it’s the process of gathering information with the mental process of getting the answer to your question from the gathered information.

To do research, you begin with a question which you do not know the answer to. Then decide which type of information or data you will need to answer that question. Gather or collect the needed information or data. Lastly, work with the collected information to come up with an answer.
