Pygmy Whale Found Dead in Davao City

A Pygmy whale has been found dead in the coastal area of Matina in Davao City due to waste pollution causing dehydration to the sea creature.

A Facebook user named Darrell Blatchley has shared the photos of a dead Pygmy sperm whale that died after accidentally consuming solid waste in the ocean.

Prof. Darrell Blatchley, a bone collector said that the three-meter marine creature died due to severe dehydration after the whale’s throat was stuffed with plastic trash.

The male sea creature has a length of three meters and a weight of 200 kilograms, according to the bone collector.

Male Pygmy Sperm Whale 3 meters 200+- kilos. Found floating July 28 2019 Matina Aplaya, Davao City. Cause of Death: Emaciated, Dehydration, blocked intestine due to plastic cup and Nylon rope. Stomach empty, intestines empty. Only Plastic. #5 Cetacian this year. All 5 due to Man.

Since 2009, around 63 dead whales and dolphins have been discovered in the coastal area of Davao Gulf. 43 of those marine species died due to plastic ingestion.
