Phivolcs Issues Warning Against Earthquake Reports That Are “Unconfirmed and Unreliable”
PHIVOLCS – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warned the public against “unconfirmed and unreliable” earthquake reports.
One of the countries that are lying along the Pacific Ring of Fire is the Philippines that is why this country is prone to earthquakes. More than fifteen(15) quakes are usually recorded daily.
The government agency that is tasked in recording such natural events is the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. On its official social media pages, it releases information regarding the quake.
The government agency issues details such as the magnitude of the quake, its epicenter, and its depth. It also records the intensity felt because of the natural shaking caused by the movement of plates.
Recently, on its official Twitter page, Phivolcs has taken a different post – a warning against “unconfirmed and unreliable” reports about an earthquake.
The government agency stressed that there is “no reliable technology” across the globe that can predict the exact occurrence of a quake. That is why it encourages the people to be prepared always.
Phivolcs called out to the public to avoid taking part on the circulation of the “unconfirmed and unreliable” earthquake reports to not further add to the weight of its negative effect.
Here is the reminder officially posted by the government agency on Twitter:
