Surigao del Norte Hit by Earthquake with 3.7 Magnitude Today
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 3.7 magnitude quake in Surigao del Norte today, July 20, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Surigao del Norte. At 05:43 am today, July 20, 2019, Surigao del Norte was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Surigao del Norte was located at 09.73°North, 125.40°East – 006 km South 27° West of San Francisco (Anao-aon). The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 001 kilometers.
According to Phivolcs, Intensity IV was felt in Surigao City. There are no expected damages caused by the quake and as well as aftershocks.
