Surigao Del Sur Hit by Earthquake with 5.5 Magnitude Today
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.5 magnitude quake in Surigao Del Sur today, July 13, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Surigao Del Sur. At 04:42 am today, July 13, 2019, Surigao Del Sur was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Surigao Del Sur was located at 09.32°North, 126.01°East – 009 km South 46° East of Carrascal. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 005 kilometers.
Based on the bulletin released by Phivolcs, Intensity I was felt in Bislig City and Cagayan de Oro City. Intensity II was felt in Cebu City; Borongan City; and Mambajao, Camiguin.
Cagwait, Surigao Del Sur; Balingoan, Salay, Balingasag, Jasaan and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental; and Cagayan De Oro City experienced Intensity III.
Intensity IV was felt in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; Surigao City; Tandag City; Gingoog City and Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental; Tandag
City; and Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur.
According to Phivolcs, Carrascal, Surigao Del Sur; Butuan City felt Intensity V. There are expected damages caused by the quake and as well as aftershocks.
