Labor Groups Wants Ang Probinsyano Rep Alfred Delos Santos To Resign
ANG PROBINSYANO – Labor groups demanded the resignation of Ang Probinsyano rep citing his “despicable” and “barbaric” treatment towards the waiter.
On July 7, Ang Probinsyano party-list representative Alfred Delos Santos hit a waiter at Bigg’s Diner in Legaspi City.
The CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media and elicited reactions from the online community.
The lawmaker then went to the house of the waiter Christian Kent Alejo to apologize about the incident.
However, Alejo was not satisfied with his gesture. He demanded Delo Santos to make a public apology.
“I am sorry not only to Mr. Christian Kent Alejo and his family but also to the people who voted for Ang Probinsyano. Sorry for disappointing you,” Delos Santos said.
He also said that he’s “deeply grateful that [the waiter’s family] properly received me and accepted my apology.”
Ang Probinsyano rep Alfred Delos Santos said he’s not a ‘bully’ and made a promise to the people and party mates that he’ll prove to them that he’s fit for the job.
However, labor groups demanded the resignation of the lawmaker citing his “despicable” and “barbaric” treatment towards the service crew member in Legaspi City.
Based on a report from Inquirer, Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) urged the waiter to “proceed and file a complaint against the congressman. The group also vowed to give “legal and political support” to Alejo if ever.
Partido Manggagawa National Chair Rene Magtubo also aired his opinion regarding the issue.
“A student who punches his peer is liable to be expelled from school. A worker who hits a customer will definitely be terminated, and will probably be arrested and jailed. But Delos Santos is still walking free and engaging in verbal acrobatics to assuage public outrage,” Magtubo said.
According to the report, Vice President of the Federation of Free Workers, Julius Cainglet said Alfred Delos Santos’s actions just showed that he’s “not fit for the job.”
“How can a true probinsyano do harm to a [fellow] probinsyano?… a waiter’s job is a decent job and a dignified job. No waiter, no worker deserves disrespect especially from an elected public official, a party list representative at that, who is expected to champion the cause of the marginalized.”
Based on the report, the spokesperson of Ang Probinsyano, Joco Sabio, said their party-list won’t hesitate to suspend or remove Delos Santos from their party.
“We will not tolerate any kind of abuse in our party. We will not hesitate to suspend or even remove Congressman Delos Santos if we establish that this was an unprovoked attack,” said Sabio.
