Pop-Up Warnings Will Be Implemented By Instagram To Counter Bullying
INSTAGRAM – As a deterrent against bullying, the Instagram company recently added a pop-up warning to users who are about to make abusive remarks.
According to GMA News, IG head Adam Mosseri said that it is their responsibility to ensure a clean and safe environment on the platform. He further said that to counter bullying is one of their most important prioities right now and they will proceed to invest in understanding and dealing with this issue.
The feature revolves around an AI that will notify users if their comments are counted as offensive before posting. There is another tool which is focused on limiting the spread of abusive comments on the user’s feed.
As per the report, Mosseri said that this feature will give people a chance to think, reflect and undo their comments and at the same time, will receive less of the warnings.
He also said that in the early tests, it encouraged some people to undo their harsh comments and start making nice compliments.
This is due to the users, mostly youths, who are reluctant to report, unfollow or block their perpetrators as this would worsen the bullying, especially if they encounter each other in real life.
The “restrict” feature is reported to make the comments of the user only visible to the user. Mosseri said that you can be able to make the restricted user’s comment visible to others if you approving the comments.
This is one of the latest actions social media platforms take to counter bullying, hate speech, and abusive conduct, which will cause a harmful effect on the young users, physically and mentally.
