Paolo Duterte Says Something About Running For House Speaker
PAOLO DUTERTE – Davao City Representative and son of President Duterte Paolo Duterte recently said that he will withdraw from running as House Speaker.
According to a report on ABS-CBN News, he said he already made the decision after talking to his father on Thursday evening. Paolo and Pres. Rodrigo both agreed that this is not the right time to run for House Speaker.
President Duterte also said a few days ago that he will step down as soon as his son will run for House Speaker. Paolo said that he will support the bid of his fellow Davaoeño lawmaker Isidro Ungab since they are both part of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP).
As per the report, without disclosing the chief executive’s comments, Paolo said that the President has also been fully informed of Rep. Ungab’s participation in the race for the next Speaker of the House of Representatives. PDP-Laban also said that it would assist in the speakership bid of Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.
The House’s Duterte bloc, as well as several lawmakers, claimed that there are some Cabinet officials who advised the President to support Cayetano to run as House Speaker. Finance secretary Carlos Dominguez, however, denied the claim, saying this:
“Out of respect for the President, I have never egged or urged the President on any matter since the start of this Administration,”
“[I] do not intend to start now,”
