Duterte Lambasts Critics Who Mull To File Impeachment Case

DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Duterte threatened the critics who plan to file an impeachment case against him.

Previously, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said he will still allow the Chinese fishers in the West Philippine Sea because the Philippines is China’s ally.

However, several personalities reacted and said the president just made an ‘impeachable offense.’

Personalities who reacted include Senator Leila De Lima, former PH Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales and former Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario.

De Lima said the President statements “palpably shows a pattern of an open and brazen disregard of the rule of law and betrayal of the national interest.”

Morales said Chinese fishermen shouldn’t be allowed to fish in the Philippines exclusive economic zone without the consent of the Filipinos.

Del Rosario said the 74-year-old president could be impeached for his failure to protect the Philippine waters.

“The Constitution states that the President and the military must secure the national territory. And the national territory includes the exclusive economic zone. To violate that is really basis for impeachment of the President,” Del Rosario said.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN, President Duterte slammed the critics who threatened him for an impeachment case on Thursday, June 27.

“I-impeach ako? Kulungin ko silang lahat. Subukan ninyo…”

“I-impeach mo ako? I-deliver ko kayo sa Beijing lahat. You want me not only to violate the Constitution. How can I protect the resources when there’s nobody to eat it?” he added.

According to the report, the president is just protecting the country for a far greater cause that what the law covers.

“That is a provision for the thoughtless and the senseless. Protection about the economic rights, about the economic zone? resources? I am protecting the country and 110 [million] Filipinos.”

“That piece of paper, the Constitution, would become meaningless with no spirit except desperation, agony and suffering. Kasi pagpunta mo roon how do you drive them away?” he added.
