Plastic Trash Accepted As Payment at Plastic Barter Store in Cebu City
The Plastic Barter Store in Cebu City is now accepting plastic trash as payment for their products with the aim to reduce the waste pollution.
The Cebu store is now offering its products in exchange for their customers’ washable and recyclable plastic wastes such as water bottles, sachets, and food packs.
The plastic garbage has corresponding numbers of kilograms in exchange for an item in the store.
The group named 12 Baskets Movement launched the concept with the goal to reduce the plastic wastes in Cebu City and also to help the poor families.
The collected plastic trash will be shredded in Dumlog, Talisay City to convert it to hollow blocks, which will be sold at the price of P12 each.
12 Baskets Movement volunteer Gina Espenilla explained that the plastic is strong when mixed with cement to form hollow blocks since the material takes 100 years to be decomposed.
The store does not accept plastic trash from big companies since they are prioritizing individual because most of their customers are scavengers who exchange plastic for canned goods, clothes, and slippers.
The establishment is open from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm in the afternoon.
