Longest Day in Ph To Be Experienced on June 21, 2019 (Friday)
The astronomical agency PAGASA said that the Philippines was expected to experience its longest day of 2019 on Friday (June 21, 2019).
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the summer solstice will fall at 11:54 pm on Friday.
The summer solstice usually happens around June 21 of every year and occurs when the title of the Earth’s northern axis towards the sun is at a maximum angle.
The Northern Hemisphere would experience its longest daytime and the shortest night-time of the year during the summer solstice.
Meanwhile, the Southern Hemisphere would have longer night-time and shorter daytime.
“This is the time when the Sun attains its greatest declination of +23.5 degrees and passes directly overhead at noon for all observers at latitude 23.5 degrees North, which is known as the Tropic of Cancer,” PAGASA said.
This astronomical event marks the start of northern axis tilting away from the Sun and days will begin shorter in the Northern Hemisphere.
