The people’s champ Manny Pacquiao is set to face the undefeated professional boxer Keith Thurman at the MGM Grand Arena on July 20. The two faced each other at a press conference recently at the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).

Boxing analysts also observed both fighters and some have concluded that Keith Thurman would be a difficult opponent for Pacquiao. To heighten his chances and set the bar higher, Pacquiao had to go through intensive training.

Tim Tszyu, an Australian superwelterweight champion, got to train with Pacquiao as his chief sparmate during the preparations for the upcoming WBA welterweight title brawl against Keith Thurman.

Last Monday, Tszyu flew in from Sydney and sparred with Pacquiao for four rounds at the Elorde Gym the following day. The two are set to go another couple of rounds in the afternoon.

Jonathan Peñalosa – Pacquiao’s assistant trainer, revealed that the training plan is to gradually increase the rounds starting from four last Tuesday and working up to five rounds on Wednesday and six rounds on Saturday.

By the time Pacquiao travels to Los Angeles next week, he should’ve gotten to eight or ten rounds. He will then finally get to 12 rounds when in L.A.

Philippine superlightweight champion Jheritz Chavez from Cebu and another professional boxer Jestoni Autida from Zamboanga del Sur is currently on standby as Pacquiao’s sparring partners.

When Pacquiao already extended capacity to go for more rounds, he will proceed to exchange sparring partners including Chavez and Autida in his training.

This is according to an article from MSN News.

Peñalosa also shared some information about Pacquiao’s current training status in his statement:

“Si Tszyu muna ka-sparring ni Boss kasi four rounds pa lang. Ready lang sina Jheritz at Jestoni. Lagi nasa gym sila tuwing sparring. OK naman ang sparring ni Boss kay Tszyu kasi parang Thurman gumalaw.”

[For now, Tszyu would be Boss’ (Pacquaio) sparring partner since he can only go four rounds. Jheritz and Jestoni would be ready. Their always at the gym during the sparring sessions. Boss’ (Pacquiao) sparring with Tszyu is also going well since he moves like Thurman.]

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
