DENR Orders Closure of Siargao Dumpsite

DENR – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources released an order mandating the closure of a dumpsite in Siargao.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources visibly continues to strengthen its pursuit to protect nature.

Previously, it was among those that helped in the rehabilitation of Boracay Aklan which went on for six(6) months in 2018. The island is now clean and stricter implementation of rules is observed to preserve it.

Recently, the Environmental Department issued another move in line with its pursuit to protect nature.

Based on a recent report on GMA News, the DENR released a cease and desist order over a dumpsite in Siargao. It mandated the closure of the open dumpsite specifically located in General Luna.

Reportedly, residual containment areas in every barangay was also mandated by the Department to the local government of General Luna.

The residual containment areas will serve as the storage of the non-biodegradable waste products and as well as those that cannot be recycled until a sanitary landfill is available.

Based on the report, the mayor of General Luna, Mayor Veronico Solloso, assured that their local government is working to have a permanent dumpsite in their place.

Aside from tracking the waste disposal system, the DENR is also reportedly in the pursuit of tracking establishments who violate the 20-meter easement zone.

Furthermore, the Department is also out to find out which establishments do not have a certificate of environmental compliance.
