Masbate’s national costume in Bb. Pilipinas 2019 is not copied from an Indonesian candidate’s gown
Benj Leguiab IV, the designer who created the national costume of Miss Masbate Hannah Arnold in Bb. Pilipinas 2019, defended that he did not copy the gown of an Indonesia candidate.
The most prestigious national pageant in the Philippines held its national costume fashion show last May 29.
Hannah Arnold, representing Masbate, was one of the Top 10 finalists in the said category.
On the other hand, her gown caught the attention of Indonesian fans because they pointed the similarity it has with the gown of Miss Grand International Indonesia 2017 Dea Rizkita, based on Philstar’s report.
In line with this, as the designer of the gown of Miss Masbate, Benj Leguiab IV defended his creation.
He said in a lengthy Facebook post that his inspiration came from the tradition in Cordillera region.
“The bangga concept was inspired by the Lady who selling bangas on their house yard, placing the banga on the banig which one of their source of income. In 1860 woman in Kalinga started to make their own way to help their families even they are at home like selling bangas, abaniko , banig and other tools for daily lives,” he shared.
He also said, “This national costume hopes to inspire everyone to appreciate our heritage. Remember that even the smallest of places can make a mesmerizing impact to every Filipino.”
The Filipino designer included in his post old photos where he drew his inspiration for Miss Masbate’s national costume in Bb. Pilipinas 2019.
