The government of Papua New Guinea is comprised with parliamentary representative democratic multi-party system, whereby the Prime Minister is the head of government

Recently Peter Charles Paire O’Neill or Peter O’Neill – the ninth Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea – filed his resignation officially in Port Moresby.

This alleviated a long running political crisis in the nation and making a multi-billion dollar gas deal with US and France dubious.

Peter O’Neill reported that he already forwarded an official formal letter of his resignation to the governor general of Papua New Guinea. This was after he encountered a vote of no confidence which he saw as something he would surely lose.

He had served his nation for eight long years but he also received many criticisms toward his alleged endemic corruptions and other governing-related issues.

Influential politicians from other regions hesitated to accept his deal with Total and Exxon Mobile amounting to $13 billion, for the extraction, piping and shipment of Liquefied Natural Gas or LNG.

James Marape – Minister of Finance- was actually the first senior cabinet authority who pursued resignation while protesting. He says the total money would not go to Papua New Guinean residents, local firms or the regions.

O’Neill, on the other hand, felt like he had to destated:

“I want to inform this honorable house that at 9:45 am this morning I delivered to… the governor-general of Papua New Guinea my letter of resignation so that we can deal with this matter once and for all.”

This is according to an article from PhilStar.

The voting process for the parliamentary to select a new prime minister is expected by this week,

That’s all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
