On Wednesday (May 29, 2019), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the rainy season would start around the first half of June.
PAGASA deputy administrator Flaviana Hilario said that the Philippines could expect at least five tropical cyclones from June to August.
“In terms of our forecast on the number of tropical cyclones, from June to August we are expecting around 5 to 8 tropical cyclones,” Hilario said.
Normal rainfall conditions are expected to resume in most parts of the Philippines for the month of June.
Hilario also said that the El Niño phenomenon might last until August or could extend until the end of the year.
Since October 2018, the Philippines have been experiencing reduced rainfall causing dry spell and drought in some provinces.
