Previously, there were reports about container vans entering the country filled with trash from Canada. To resolve this issue, Canada vowed to work with Philippines.

Metro Vancouver sees burning the trash is the most practical choice to get rid of the Canadian trash. They say that this is probably the most environmental choice.

The presence of the 1500-ton trash had to be dealt with, and Metro Vancouver stepped up to take the responsibility.

The 97 container vans were shipped to the Philippines labelled as something else. The Philippine government rejected the vans and asked Canada to get it back.

The trash was eventually sent back to Canada for Metro Vancouver to burn with their waste-to-energy incinerator in Burnaby.

Metro Vancouver claimed that the trash incineration would be the most environmentally healthy choice. They also revealed that the garbage was comprised mostly with plastic and paper wastes with “low level” contaminants such as “electronics and household wastes.”

Sav Dhaliwal, Metro Vancouver’s Board chairperson said:

“For decades, Metro Vancouver’s Waste-to-Energy Facility has responsibly processed waste material from the international airline and shipping industries, as well as other materials designated for secure disposal by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.”

This is according to an article from CBC.

The incinerator in Burnaby can turn trash into waste. The waste-to-energy facility if the region could provide enough power for up to 16000 homes.

1,500 tons of trash burned with the incinerator would take two days of work.

A waste handling fee would be charged by the incinerator facility to the federal government that would coust about 250$ per ton.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. WE’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
