Masbate Hit by Earthquake with 4.0 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.0 magnitude quake in Masbate today, May 20, 2019.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Recently, a strong quake has hit a part of the country. At 06:45 am today, May 20, 2019, Masbate was rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0.

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Masbate was located at 11.89°North, 124.10°East – 008 km South 85° East of Pio V. Corpuz, Limbuhan.

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 030 kilometers. Intensity I was felt in Masbate City and Legaspi City.

Based on the bulletin posted by Phivolcs on its official Twitter page, there are no expected damages caused by the quake and as well as aftershocks.
