Philippines Refused To Host the World Street Food Congress, DOT Says

The Department of Tourism (DOT) said that the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) disapproved the Philippines’ hosting of the World Street Food Congress.

It was Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat who revealed that the Philippines has disapproved the hosting of the WSFC.

The Philippines thumbs down to host the event is due to the high cost of staging that could reach up to P47.8 million with a licensing fee of P34 million.

“There was no contract. It was not approved. When it was discussed in the board, they felt it was too expensive for a few days even. It was never approved by the board,” Puyat said.

WSFC organizer Makansutra (S) Pte Ltd. expressed its disappointment towards DOT and TPB for disapproving the project. The organizer has already invited chefs, cooks, street food professionals and vendors from 14 countries.
