NGCP Says Luzon Grid Placed Under Yellow Alert on Wednesday (May 15)

NGCP Announced Luzon Grid Now Under Yellow Alert

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said that the Luzon grid was placed under yellow alert due to thinning power services.

On Wednesday (May 15, 2019), NGCP announced that Luzon grid will be under yellow alert from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.

The Yellow Alert has been raised in Luzon Grid because the expected peak demand exceeds its available capacity.

NGCP

Luzon grid has an available capacity of 11,845 Megawatts while the expected peak demand has reached 11,214.

However, the Yellow Alert does not mean that a necessary power outage will be implemented.

Yellow Alert means that the capacity of the biggest plant online is more than its reserve.

The Department of Energy (DOE) will announce further details and updates regarding the issuance of Yellow Alert later today.

Previously, the Energy Department assured the public that there would be sufficient supply of electricity for the entire election week.
