Meralco Provides Portable Generators, Flood Lights For 2019 Election Day

MERALCO – Power distributor Meralco prepared portable generators and floodlights for the May 13.

May 13, 2019, is the most awaited day for the midterm election candidates. Most of them are surely nervous about the result.

In a previous article, the Commission on Election (Comelec) has started deploying the official ballots.

Scheduled Power Interruption

The Department of Energy (DOE) secretary Karlo Nograles assured the people that there will be no power outages during the Election Day.

“We see that the Department of Energy is doing their mandate to address the energy security in the country. The DOE has been aggressive in starting the power generation projects,” he said.

In a report, the cabinet members have already discussed the power supply issue and considering the Luzon grid red alert status.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN, Energy Assistant Secretary Redentor Delola told the Senate Committee on Energy that there will be no power interruption on May 13.

“We expect sufficient supply. The worry we’re having is the counting day, transmission day,” said Delola.

On the other hand, the Philippines’ largest power distributor Meralco stated they are preparing a contingency plan in case numerous poll precincts will be affected by the rotational brownouts.

Most part of Luzon has been experiencing rotating brownouts due to the insufficient power supply.

The electric company said power interruption by cleaning air-conditioning units, unplugging unused appliances avoid frequent opening of refrigerators.

According to ABS-CBN’s Twitter post, Meralco prepared over 150 portable generator sets for the election 2019 day and counting.

The portable generator also came with 300 flood light which is very useful in the evening. They advised the in charge of the poll precincts to also bring their back up lights.
