Foreign Lady Dies of Rabies After Bitten by Puppy

A 24-year-old foreign lady identified as Birgitte Kallestad dies of rabies after bitten by a puppy she rescued during her vacation in the Philippines.

In February 2019, Birgitte Kallestad, a Norwegian woman together with her friends found a puppy along the street.

The young lady brought the puppy to their home and decided to adopt it to be a part of their family.

Birgitte usually plays with the puppy at the garden of a resort where they were staying until the unexpected incident happened.

The puppy nipped the fingers of the Norwegian lady like other puppies do, according to the victim’s family.

“After a while the puppy started trying to bite them like puppies do. It nipped their fingers when they were playing,” the family said in a statement.

The foreign woman started feeling ill and was admitted at the Forde hospital’s intensive care unit after her return to Norway.

Unfortunately, Birgitte died of rabies on Monday evening (May 6, 2019) at the Forde hospital where she worked as a hospital nurse.

The family also revealed that nobody in the group of friends had been vaccinated against rabies.
