The Number Of Measles Cases In Cordillera Have Increased With A Huge Rate
MEASLES CASES – During the early months of this year, the Department Of Health (DOH) already recorded a 1,481 percent increase in Measles Cases in Cordillera Region.
Back in February this year, a measles outbreak occurred in some areas in the country. Following this, measles cases continued to rise in number.
In the exact same time period as last year, the first four months of the year, DOH already recorded 680 cases in the country. That’s 637 cases more than last year’s record of 43 cases.
Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit or RESU’s Senior Health Program Officer, Karen Lonogan, reported three measles-related deaths this year. There were no record of measles-related death last year in the same time period.
This is based on an article from Manila Bulletin.
Specifically, here are the number of recorded measles cases as per the record of DOH for 2019:
- Benguet with 267 cases,
- Baguio City with 250 cases,
- Apayao with 61 cases;
- Abra with 46 cases;
- Ifugao with 22 cases;
- Mountain Province with 19 cases, and
- Kalinga with 15 cases.
In 2018, the records were:
- Apayao with 18 cases,
- Benguet with 6 cases,
- Ifugao with 6 cases,
- Benguet with 5 cases,
- Mountain Province with 4 cases,
- Abra with 3 cases and
- Kalinga with 1 case.
Of all the recorded measles cases, 354 of the affected were unvaccinated, 268 were reportedly vaccinated and 58 were uncertain.
All of the three measles-related deaths were recorded in Benguet and the victims were children below the set age and are supposed to be vaccinated.
That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
