Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, City Mayor Marcy Teodoro accused Marikina Police Chief P/Col. Redrico Maranan of imposing quota on traffic fines of the men on duty.

According to the City Mayor, some policemen and concerned citizens claimed that the police chief ordered a daily share collection of Php 50,000 from the traffic fines.

To this, the police chief reacted and put down the allegation of the city mayor.

According to the report, Maranan expressed a question on how he can impose quota on traffic fines since it is the Office of the Mayor who has the control over the tickets.

“No, I’m not placing a quota. How can I do that? Sila (Mayor’s Office) ang may control dun sa mga tickets na ‘yun,” he said.

According to the Marikina Police Chief, he is just five(5) days in service as the top chief of police in the city.

Based on the report, a local ordinance in Marikina grants the policemen a 20% share on the fines they have collected from traffic apprehensions. Maranan asserted that the share goes directly to the accounts of the cops.

“Ang nakakakuha ng 20 percent ay ‘yung pulis mismo at diretso sa mismo Landbank account ng concerned pulis,” he expressed.

Reportedly, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is currently looking into the matter.
