We won two gold medals during the 2018 Asian Games. One in skateboarding competition and another one in weightlifting.

And just recently, a Filipina professional jiu-jitsu fighter brought another gold medal home by winning in the World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship at Abu Dhabi.

This is based on the article from The National. According to the article,

The event was held at the Mubadala Arena last Wednesday (April 24, 2019).

Annie Ramirez celebrated her first gold with tears of overwhelming joy.

28-year-old Filipina Annie Ramirez was declared winner against American fighter Sophia Dalpra. Ramirez and Dalpra competed in the female 55-kilogram purple belt category.

Ramirez was declared winner after a 4-4 deadlock.

Ramirez got emotional after the win as she expressed that she has never won a gold medal in the World Professional contest before.

She revealed the reason behind her emotions in her statement:

“I got emotional because I have never won a gold on a world stage. It was a close fight and with the points tied, that was a long and anxious wait before I was declared the winner.”

Ramirez has reportedly competed before at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. She fought under the blue belt category twice and once under the purple belt last year.

It was also apparent that Ramirez carried the country’s pride on her back as she fought with heart. She expressed how meaningful the win is for her and the country as she said:

“This is my first gold in four years in the World Pro and it means a lot for me and my country.”

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
