Calayan, Cagayan Hit by Earthquake with 5.0 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.0 magnitude quake in Calayan, Cagayan today, April 15, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the latest quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Recently, Phivolcs recorded another quake in a part of Cagayan. At 09:33:00 am today, April 15, 2019, Calayan, Cagayan was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Cagayan was located at 19.16°N, 121.08°E – 042 km S 72° W of Calayan.
The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 011 kilometers. Based on the bulletin posted by Phivolcs on its official Twitter page, Intensity I was felt in Gonzaga, Cagayan while Intensity II was felt in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
Claveria, Cagayan, Pasuiquin and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte felt Intensity III.
According to Phivolcs, there are no expected damage caused by the quake that hit Calayan, Cagayan but there may be aftershocks.
