Malacañang Speaks Up Against ICC’s Push To Examine PH Drug Issues

Malacañang Asserts Right To Sovereignty Against ICC

MALACAÑANG – This Friday, the Palace takes on the International Criminal Court (ICC) for pushing the examination of drug issues in the country.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) decided to pursue inspection and examination of the war on drugs in the country. It is regardless of the country’s disengagement from the international tribunal.

According to the news article from ABS-CBN News, presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo released a statement about this concern.

This was after the ICC confirmed the receipt of conversation was filed by the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL).

Based on the article, Salvador Panelo expressed the Palace’s disagreement towards the ICC in his statement:

“It becomes apparent that this institution is indeed bent on interfering with the sovereignty of our Republic even if it means disregarding the Rome Statute, the very instrument which created it.”

Salvador Panelo’s statement implies that the International Criminal Court would be breaking their own rules if they continue the examination regardless of the country’s prior disengagement.

Panelo also said that the ICC is takings action guided by presumptuous biases that is geared towards defaming the country.

He apparently said:

With the biased and preconceived actions of the ICC, we cannot blame the Filipino people for thinking that it has taken a politically-motivated obnoxious path aimed at maligning not just this Administration but the very Republic of the Philippines.”

The Philippines disengagement from the international tribunal dates back to March 17. It was triggered by the communications before the ICC discussing the crimes under the President’s advocate against drugs.

Manila also expressed to the United Nations that the country was never officially a part of world’s tribunal. Salvador Panelo also reiterated that the examination should not be possible if it is past the date of Philippines and ICC’s disengagement.

That’s all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
