Pres. Duterte Appoints Janet Abuel as Acting DBM Secretary
JANET ABUEL ACTING DBM SECRETARY – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed Janel Abuel as the acting secretary of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
Previously, Pres. Duterte named Benjamin Diokno, former DBM Secretary, as the governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). This prompted the move to look for someone who can take over his position in DBM.
Following Diokno’s appointment to BSP, lawyer and certified public accountant Janet Abuel became the officer-in-charge in DBM. Recently, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte finalized her appointment.
Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, Malacañang recently announced that Pres. Duterte appointed Janel Abuel as the acting DBM secretary.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, the 74-year-old President made the announcement during the Cabinet meeting held on the eve of Monday, April 1, 2019.
Based on the report, it was in 1996 when Abuel became a part of the Department as a budget management analyst. She was a 1998 Bar topnotcher.
In 1999, she became the Director IV and was promoted in 2012 to being the Assistant Secretary. In 2018, the lawyer was seated as the Undersecretary.
According to the Palace, her expertise, competence, and integrity made Abuela the person fit for the top post in the department.
