List of People with HIV Includes 4 Pregnant Women
PREGNANT WOMEN – Among those who are in the list of people with HIV are four(4) women who are pregnant.
Previously, the Department of Health (DOH) has released the data on the cases of people with HIV in the Philippines. Undeniably, the spike on the count of the patients is alarming.
More than 11,400 new cases were recorded in 2018 – higher than the 11,100 cases recorded in 2017. The alarming spike prompted the DOH to encourage the public to be tested for the said virus that harms the immune system.
In the case of people with HIV, the virus harms the immune system through damaging the white blood cells inside the body. Several symptoms can be felt by an affected person including the following:
- Fever
- Rapid weight loss
- Rashes
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Sore Throat

Recently, a public servant has revealed another detail regarding the alarming cases of HIV in the Philippines. Based on a report on Bandera, Kabayan Representative Ron Salo revealed that four(4) pregnant women are included in the list.
Salo is the author of the policy act on HIV. According to him, the four(4) pregnant women who tested positive on the virus is part of the 877 cases recorded in December.
Based on the report, Salo further added that the ages of the women were between 22 to 25. A total of 52 adolescents including two(2) aging between 10-14 years old were also part of the record.
According to the Kabayan Representative, there is really a need for HIV “prevention, education, and other forms of effective intervention” that is why the new law must be quickly put into implementation.
In the new law, according to Salo, young ones aging 15 to 18 years old can go for an HIV test even without the consent of their parents. Those who are 15 years old and below may also be tested with a health worker’s aid.
