Oscars 2019: Awards Night Will Not Have A Host, Academy Confirms

Oscars 2019 awards night will not feature a host

ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke shed details about the Oscars 2019 having no host and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed this.

Nearly two months after the supposed host Kevin Hart gave up this stint due to the resurfacing of his past homophobic posts on Twitter.

He already apologized to the LGBTQ community but refused to accept the hosting stint once again, based on The Rolling Stone’s report.

“We have a very exciting opener planned. We are not going to go straight into people thanking their agents,” Burke said in an interview.

Furthermore, she said that the producers of Academy Awards see this issue as an opportunity to keep the show tight within three hours. Last year, the total running time of the awards night was three hours and 53 minutes.

“The presenters and the movies [will] be the stars. That’s the best way to keep the show to a brisk three hours,” Burke said.

Oscars 2019 is not the first that the awards night happened without a host. Back in 1989, producer Allan Carr decided to have a variety of presenters to move the show along, based on the report.

It was best remembered for the notorious opening production number which featured a song-and-dance routine of Rob Lowe with Snow White.

The Academy Awards will be aired on February 24, 2019, 8 p.m. ET.
