Here are the two nominees in the Oscars 2019 (Academy Awards) who have Filipino blood running their veins.

Previously, movie fans got excited when the most prestigious movie award-giving body announced the list of nominees this year.

Some nominees are first-timers while some already had their nominations in the past years.

Two of the first timers this year are the movies from Netflix (Roma) and Marvel (Black Panther) for the best picture category.

When the list of nominees was announced, it was found out that two of them have Filipino blood, Filipino-American Matthew Libatique and Filipino-Canadian Trevor Jimenez.

Libatique is nominated for best cinematography category for Bradley Cooper-Lady Gaga movie A Star Is Born.

This is his second Oscars nomination. His first one was for the movie Black Swan of Natalie Portman.

Both of his parents are Fil-Am and he was born and raised in Queen, New York.

From doing music videos for 8 Degrees, Dru Hill, Jay-Z and The ­Cranberries, Libatique was able to meet film director Darren Aronofsky in 1998.

Since that, they collaborated in various projects such as Pi, Requiem For A Dream, Black Swan and Mother! He was also the cinematographer in the movies Iron Man 2, Straight Outta Compton and Chi-Raq.

Jimenez, on the other hand, is nominated for Oscars 2019 best anima­ted short film category for Weekends.

This is his first Oscar nomination. He was part of Pixar’s co-op program that develops animated short films and helps animators and background painting.

Some of his projects were Monsters University, Inside Out, Finding Dory, Coco, Bao, Rio and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, based on Abante’s report.
