Southern Leyte Divided into 2 Legislative Districts Following Pres. Duterte’s Approval

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved the proposed division of Southern Leyte into two(2) legislative districts.

Less than three(3) months before the 2019 election, a lot of things are happening including the division of Southern Leyte into two legislative districts which may, later on, require two elected representatives.

Based on a report in GMA News Online, Malacañang announced that Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has given his approval to the Republic Act 11198, a law seeking to divide Southern Leyte into two(2) legislative districts.

The 73-year-old President is no stranger to the province. According to the report, he was born in Maasin City, Southern Leyte on March 28, 1945.

Following the President’s approval of the proposed division of Southern Leyte province, a first district legislative and a second district legislative would be created.

According to the report, the first district legislative would be composed of the following city and towns in the province:

  • Maasin City
  • Macrohon Town
  • Padre Burgos Town
  • Limasawa Town
  • Bontoc Town
  • Malitbog Town
  • Tomas Oppus Town

Reportedly, the following towns would compose the second legislative district of Southern Leyte:

  • Sogod
  • Libagon
  • Liloan
  • San Francisco
  • Pintuyan
  • San Ricardo
  • Saint Bernard
  • Anahawan
  • San Juan
  • Hinundayan
  • Hinunangan
  • Silago

According to the report, while there is still no representatives elected for the two new legislative districts of Southern Leyte, the incumbent representative of the lone legislative district of the province will continue to stand for the whole district.
