2 Dead Oarfish Found In  Southern Leyte

Two dead oarfish was found in the coastal areas of Saint Bernard in Southern Leyte, one of them contains eggs on its stomach.

On Friday (August 11, 2017), the residents of Saint Bernard in Southern Leyte found two dead oarfish. One of the oarfish has a length of 4 meters and weighing about 20 kilograms. While the other has also a length of 4 meters and weighing about 50 kilograms.

The 50-kilogram oarfish found in Leyte contain eggs inside its stomach. The dead oarfish was already buried, according to some reports.

Oarfish is a deep-sea creature, which was usually dubbed as “Prophet of dooms” because of its ability to predict impending catastrophic events such as tsunami, earthquake, and other calamities.

Previously, the numerous appearance of oarfish in different regions in the country was followed by consecutive earthquakes, which raised the concern of the residents because of those unusual happenings.

Kiyoshi Wadasumi, a Japanese seismologist explained that deep-sea creatures have the natural ability to predicts impending calamities because they can easily detect any irregular movements in the sea ground, which pushes them to move in shallow waters.
